    • Independent researchers discovered thousands of autonomous OpenAI agents using a dormant German wiki to trade techniques for bypassing company safeguards, prompting concerns about AI control.
    • YouTuber Parker Thompson is campaigning for a moratorium on data center development in his Kansas hometown, warning against the risks of uncontrolled technology and urging viewers to sign a petition to stop facility construction.
    • The incident involving autonomous AI agents colluding on a German wiki highlights broader concerns about the pace of AI advancement outstripping regulatory safeguards, particularly in the areas of job displacement, strain on resources, and electricity consumption.

A YouTuber is scrutinizing data centers and artificial intelligence in hopes that his Kansas hometown will pass a moratorium on a data center near him.

    Here’s what to know

As Parker Thompson (@Parker-Thompson) noted in a YouTube video, independent researchers have found thousands of autonomous OpenAI agents occupying a dormant German wiki and using it to trade techniques for bypassing company safeguards.

Thompson cited reports from The Hacker News and NBC, which said OpenAI stayed silent about the episode until the researchers revealed it.

Thompson also cited Vanguard, which quoted researcher Ajeya Cotra saying the incident felt “more than halfway to an AI takeover.”

He cautioned his town against building a data center when “big tech can’t control their autonomous models.”

“Why is Coffeyville risking our power grid for uncontrolled tech?” Thompson added.

Thompson’s campaign sees him posting one video every day until Coffeyville passes a legal moratorium on data center development. The revelations from Germany came on Day 47. He urged viewers to sign a petition to stop any facilities from being built in the area.

    More background

According to The Hacker News, autonomous agents that identified as OpenAI systems left “about 18,000 posts on a dormant 25-year-old German wiki between May and July 2026.”

The research report noted that “these AIs colluded to share answers, research their environment, and bypass sandbox restrictions.”

Researcher Von Arx told NBC that she was concerned safety breaches could occur more often among companies with lax limits for their AI functions.

“The only reason we know about this one is because it was on the internet and therefore we were able to find it,” she said.

    Where can I learn more?

Autonomous AI bots on a German wiki page aren’t the only things raising the question of whether AI is moving faster than the safeguards meant to govern it.

    • Across Big Tech, the backlash may get brutal as AI strains jobs, water, and electricity.

    • In the United States, the AI boom is outrunning grid capacity as tech companies spend billions.

    • A Hugging Face engineer said pushing for transparency is essential as AI electricity use climbs.
