A new statement posted under the CyberLeek name threatens to release a complete GTA 6 build if the associated cryptocurrency reaches a $30 million market cap. The supposed way out for Take-Two and Rockstar? Agree to a disc release and issue a public apology. Doesn’t seem too likely, does it?
The threat follows the 25-minute gameplay leak that appeared earlier this week. The new statement is visible on the CyberLeek website, rather than just circulating as a screenshot or social media post. However, that doesn’t independently establish who is currently behind the site, or whether they possess everything they claim to have. There is some many fakes going around at the moment that it’s easy to be fooled.
The October 10 post, titled The Offer, states: “Here’s the deal, nice and clean. CYBERLEEK hits 30 million marketcap, the build goes out — full story mode, played to the end, credits and all.” It also offers to provide requested footage as evidence that the complete campaign is available.
The CYBERLEEK coin currently sits at a market cap of around $2.87 million.
There’s a little ambiguity in the wording of CyberLeek’s statement that caught my attention. The claim that the build will be released suggests something people could download and play, which is how several outlets have interpreted it. But the reference to the story being “played through” could also describe footage of a complete playthrough. I lean towards the former reading, but the statement doesn’t spell out exactly what would be distributed or how anyone else would run it.
Either way, having access to gameplay footage doesn’t establish that the entire campaign is present and playable and in the hands of CyberLeek. Even if this is the same CyberLeek responsible for the earlier leaks, the latest promise still needs evidence of its own. This could be just a scam to pocket even more money.
I’d be very surprised if Take-Two changed that plan in response to this threat, especially with launch just over five weeks away. There’s also no reason to assume meeting the demands would prevent another leak later.
Personally, this looks more like another attempt to get people pumping money into a cryptocurrency than a convincing campaign for physical games. That doesn’t prove the threat is empty, but it certainly gives me no reason to trust the promise. We know that CyberLeek has access to some form of the game, but is it really the entire thing from start to finish?
My advice is simple: don’t put money into this. That’s kind of obvious, right? It’s a crypto coin run by someone who hasn’t exactly proven to be trustworthy, after all. And the game is out next month, anyway.
But be warned, spoilers could be incoming. CyberLeek is taking votes on what to show next, and so far seems content enough to stick to open-world gameplay and showing off Jason’s bollox. The fact that CyberLeek has refrained from showing story spoilers is…odd. But if a full build does get leaked, avoiding spoilers could become a game by itself.
