Cardano's RealFi Pays Up to 9% on Stablecoins. Can It Do for ADA What Tokenized Treasuries Did for the XRP Ledger?

Cardano’s new RealFi platform promises yields up to 9% on stablecoins by routing capital into real-world loans and bonds, but the XRP Ledger’s experience with tokenized assets raises a troubling question about who actually benefits when a blockchain grows.

RealFi launched onCardano(CRYPTO:ADA) on October 1, 2026, as a platform that puts unused stablecoins to work in institutional credit and trade finance. This innovative service offers lenders the opportunity to earn yields of up to 9% per year, deriving profits from loans and bonds rather than traditional crypto trading.

A similar success story is the XRP Ledger, where tokenized U.S. Treasuries grew about eightfold to nearly $418 million from the previous year through April 2026. As of October 3, ADA is trading around $0.25, down about 4% in the last day. The question now is whether RealFi can replicate the benefits for ADA that Treasuries provided for the XRP Ledger.

RealFi Turns Cardano Stablecoins Into Loans

Stablecoins are digital tokens designed to maintain a steady value of $1, typically pegged to the U.S. dollar. RealFi introduced its own dollar token, USDrf, alongside a yield-bearing version, sUSDrf, which lenders receive when they deposit USDrf.

The yield from sUSDrf comes from various, private credit, and direct loans to fintech lenders in regions like Kenya and Uganda. However, investors in sUSDrf take on risks as they are the first to incur losses if any borrowers default. Additionally, they must wait seven days before converting back to USDrf

Prominent figures in Cardano’s community support the launch. Founder Charles Hoskinson personally invested several million dollars into RealFi, and Input Output, the company building Cardano, backs the initiative. However, RealFi is currently unavailable to users in the U.S., European Union, and U.K., limiting access for many potential lenders.

Cardano Starts With About $70 Million in Stablecoins

RealFi can only lend out the dollar value it secures, and presently, Cardano has a modest amount of around $70 million in stablecoins. Moreover, the total value locked in its decentralized finance applications has dropped significantly, by over half since May, now standing at about $67 million.

In comparison, the XRP Ledger already boasts over $400 million in tokenized Treasuries, whileEthereum(CRYPTO: ETH) holds the majority of the world’s stablecoins and tokenized credit. To build a robust lending business, RealFi will need to attract fresh capital into Cardano.

Tokenized Treasuries Grew the XRP Ledger but Not XRP’s Price

The rise of tokenized Treasuries on the XRP Ledger serves as a key example of how value flows. While issuers like Ondo Finance have introduced government bonds onto the ledger,XRP(CRYPTO: XRP) itselfremains down for 2026and trades near $1.48. Those investing in bonds on the ledger primarily need the ledger for settlement and record-keeping purposes, using only minimal amounts of XRP for fees and account reserves.

RealFi functions similarly. Lenders deposit dollar tokens, borrowers repay in dollars, and the yield is also in dollars, so ADA is needed only to cover small network fees. A lender earning 9% on stablecoins needs only enough ADA to cover fees, so ongoing demand for the coin is limited, much likeXRP’s valuehasn’t buoyed despite its ledger’s growth.

ADA has risen about 37% over the past 90 days but remains 92% below its all-time high of $3.09 set in 2021. It has also underperformed other major cryptocurrenciesthis year.

Can Cardano RealFi Do for ADA What Tokenized Treasuries Did for the XRP Ledger?

RealFi could enhance Cardano’s network, similar to how Treasuries impacted the XRP Ledger by giving institutions a reason to engage with the chain. However, this initiative is unlikely to significantly affect ADA’s price directly, as the XRP Ledger pattern suggests that while the chain develops, its associated token may lag behind.

The challenge for ADA holders is that RealFi’s advantages mainly accrue to stablecoin lenders and borrowers rather than directly benefiting ADA itself.

That said, the outlook could shift if RealFi demonstrates a growing loan portfolio as December approaches and if ADA outpaces XRP into year-end. In that case, Cardano could see its credit layer positively influence the price. Conversely, if ADA continues to move in line with XRP and the broader market, RealFi’s benefits may primarily enhance the network rather than its token holders.
