Dogecoin and XRP are both chasing massive price milestones, but the gap between where they trade now and where they need to go tells two very different stories about which coin faces a steeper climb.

Dogecoin(CRYPTO:DOGE) currently needs to make a tenfold increase to reach $1, whileXRP(CRYPTO:XRP) requires just over three times its current value to hit $5. As of September 27, 2026, Dogecoin is trading at around 10 cents and XRP at approximately $1.53. Both cryptocurrencies are still far from their targets. This article explores which cryptocurrency might reach its goal first and what factors could influence their price movements.

Dogecoin Needs a 10-Fold Rise to Reach $1, While XRP Needs About a 3-Fold Rise to Reach $5

To hit the $1 mark, Dogecoin must gain about 920%, far exceeding its all-time high of roughly 74 cents from 2021. In contrast, XRP needs a rise of about 227% toreach $5, surpassing its previous records of around $3.84 in January 2018 and $3.67 in July 2025.

This means the distance to the target is significantly shorter for XRP, as each coin must break its historical highs, but XRP needs to multiply its price by about 3.3 times, a third of Dogecoin’s roughly 10 times.

Calculating the returns, an investment of $1,000 in Dogecoin at its current price near 10 cents would be valued at around $10,200 if it reaches $1. Similarly, $1,000 invested in XRP at $1.53 would be worth about $3,270 when it hits $5.

Dogecoin Adds About 5 Billion Coins a Year, While Ripple Releases XRP From Escrow

Currently, Dogecoin’s market capitalization is approximately $16.8 billion, based on its price and roughly 171.8 billion coins in circulation. If Dogecoin reaches $1, its market value would jump to around $172 billion, representing about 5.9% of the current $2.91 trillion cryptocurrency market.

It’s important to note that Dogecoin has no supply cap. Miners create 10,000 new coins with each block, leading to an annual increase of about 5.3 billion DOGE, which is roughly 3% of the circulating supply. This means that as more coins enter the market, buyers need to absorb an increasing amount at every price point.

On the other hand, XRP has around 62.9 billion coins valued at about $96.6 billion. If XRP reaches $5, its market cap would rise to about $314 billion, which accounts for roughly 10.8% of the total crypto market. Ripple can also release up to 1 billion XRP, valued at approximately $1.5 billion at $1.53, from escrow each month, adding to the liquidity available for sale.

XRP’s Rebound Started Earlier, and Both Coins Still Carry Deep Losses

In recent months, XRP’s price has shown stronger momentum, gaining 46% over the past 90 days and 41.6% over the last 60 days. This trend indicates that XRP’s recovery started earlier and has been more consistent. Meanwhile, Dogecoin has increased by 38.8% over 60 days and 34.8% over 90 days, after experiencing a brief period of decline before buyers returned.

Despite recent rallies, both cryptocurrencies are still nursing significant losses, with Dogecoin down 17.7% for 2026 and 58.2% over the past year. XRP, too, has faced challenges, down 17.3% for 2026 and 45.8% year-over-year. Many holders of XRP havepurchased at higher pricesand tend to sell into any upward movements.

Additionally, XRP has attracted interest from institutional investors, withU.S. spot XRP ETFsreportedly bringing in around $75.6 million from September 22 to 25

Which Reaches Its Target First, Dogecoin or XRP?

While XRP appears more likely to reach its $5 goal first, both cryptocurrencies face hurdles, and it may be challenging for either to meet their targets before the end of 2027. XRP’s pathway to a threefold increase is clearer compared to Dogecoin’s tenfold jump. Furthermore, XRP’s recovery trend began earlier, and it is supported by institutional buying, whereas both coins are still working to recover from losses in 2026.

Ultimately, the road ahead for either cryptocurrency can change rapidly. If XRP can close a month above$2—a 31% increase—its chances of moving toward $5 improve. On the flip side, if Dogecoin can rise to around 12 cents, which is about a 21% increase, it could turn around its performance in 2026 and take steps toward reaching $1.
